The 98th Academy Awards! The road leading to them was pretty generic and there really isn't much pizzaz to be found. Is there much to celebrate this year in terms of achievement? What did you think?

Train Dreams (2025, Netflix), Dir. Clint Bentley
Welcome to an episode where we catch up on a best picture nomination we may have missed last year. For this episode- Train Dreams (2025), from Netflix, and all its wonderfully composed shots of the life of a logger and railroad worker in early 20th century America who experiences great and tremendous loss but, in the end, finds the beauty in everything to be found. His journey is one of sadness but also amazing depth. Joel Edgerton alone is worth the watch. Should it have been nominated for best picture? What did you think?

072 - The Bride!, Dir. Maggie Gyllenhaal
From 1931 - 2026, Frankenstein and his Monster have graced the Silver Screen. Frankenstein's Monster is as iconic as any of the Classic monsters in the horror genre. We can go back even further to fin the novel and source material by Mary Shelley in 1818.
2025-2026 has been a good year for the Frankenstein story with a Netflix version nominated for many academy awards and 2026's, The Bride! getting the full treatment of A-list cast and huge budget. But can the huge cast and budget save The Bride!? Unfortunately, no.

071 - Scram 7, Dir. Kevin Williamson
From 1996 - 2026, Scream is a franchise that has found success for 30 years now. Ghost Face is as iconic as any killer in the horror / Slasher genres along with his voice on the phone before his victims die a gruesome death.
2026's Scream 7, while being a mainline entry, could be the weakest installment in the franchise with the reveal of the killer(s) being the most disappointing as there is no real link to the original Woodsboro murders. Is it finally time to just let Scream just exist in the pages of film history?

Welcome to the first bonus episode where we take a few weeks to catch up on the best picture nominations we may have missed last year. 070 - GOAT, Dir. Tyree Dilly / Adam Rosette
Sony Pictures Animation Studio has some really wonderful movies under it's belt, namely 2018's Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and 2023's Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse as well as 2021's The Mitchells vs the Machines. All three are pretty excellent movies with emphasis on 2018's Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse bringing Sony Pictures Animations back into the scope of being a major player in the animation space once again.
GOAT shares the distinct style and unique visual presentation of the previously mentioned as well as some interesting character designs with some of the strong writing and story beats. GOAT is certainly odd in its approach but looks amazing and comes together as a movie, though not as the overall quality package as some others. Kids will love it though!

Chris Hemsworth leads this great star studded cast as a thief looking to make one last big score so he can be out of the game and safe financially. He sets his sights on an insurance agent (Halle Berry) to help him as a Detective (Mark Ruffalo) gets closer and closer to solving the case.
Great cast, great music, and great action. You'll be sorry to miss this on the big screen.

068 - Dracula, Dir. Luc Besson
Dracula- A monster who has been floating around in legend and lore for hundreds of years. Historians can trace the origins back to Vlad The Impaler from the 15th century Europe. Similarly, we have many books and media with different version of Dracula and his origins. This version follows the novel more closely with a great cast and a slightly different, more romantic Dracula featured. Don't forget the '92 version from Francis Ford Coppola.
