It's a good week! Carey Mulligan and George Clooney give us some movies that are well worth talking about.

PROMISING YOUNG WOMAN
Carey Mulligan and Bo Burnham really are gems in this hidden but should be seen gem in theaters. Cassandra (Mulligan) sets out to get revenge on those responsible for a very tragic and defining moment in her life- those who did the bad and those who helped cover it up. Well worth the watch and time spent in the theater. (8/10)
THE MIDNIGHT SKY (Netflix)
George Clooney is both behind and in front of the camera in this Netflix Sci-Fi Drama about Augustine (Clooney) who must stop an expedition in space, one of Earth's last hopes, from returning home to a global disaster, and to keep searching for other planets to colonize. His journey to an outpost, with an unidentified little girl, takes him across the arctic and through some harrowing danger. Meanwhile, the space expedition faces dangers and challenges that only space can throw at them. (6.5/10)

Tuesday Jan 05, 2021
Tuesday Jan 05, 2021
Three big movies this week. One good, one great and one pretty terrible. Really- it’s impressive how bad one is.

0:10:00 **NEW EGMENT** What's Streaming? DISNEY+
X-MEN COLLECTION: X-MEN, X2: X-MEN UNITED, THE WOLVERINE, X-MEN DAYS OF FUTURE PAST, X-MEN: APOCALYPSE and Three X-MEN animated shows.

0:17:30 - NEWS OF THE WORLD, Dir. Paul Greengrass
0:31:45 - SOUL, Dir. Pete Doctor and Kemp Powers
0:59:30 - WONDER WOMAN 1984, Dir. Patty Jenkins
NEWS OF THE WORLD
Tom Hanks is the captain again for a sec…thir…fourth time as Captain Kidd - A Civil War veteran who fought for the south who now travels around reading the news of the world to people in different towns if they have a dime and an evening to spend. Hi co star, Helena Zengel is terrific as Johanna- an orphaned girl with nowhere to go. They travel hundreds of miles on a pretty breathtakingly beautiful journey across the south to find what is left of her family only to realize the cliched and inevitable conclusion. One of the best middle of the road films of the year. (6/10)
SOUL
Disney Pixar films need no introduction, and this one is no exception. Jaimee Foxx and Tina Fey head up this emotional and colorful ride as we follow Joe (Foxx) has lost his passion for music and, through spoiler heavy moments, is separated from his body and must find his way back, while also helping a soul with potential to learn who she is and her passions. Some WONDERFUL moments await you as well as a great score. One of the better Pixar resume items. (8/10)
WONDER WOMAN 1984
Patty Jenkins, WHAT HAPPENED? That’s certainly an appropriate question. Wonder Woman (2017) was, in many ways, a huge success. Box office and critically success found Wonder Woman in droves. Well paced, well acted and very well directed- certainly the best of DC as far as the DCEU is concerned. Yet WW1984 is almost the opposite of the qualities listed above. Gal Gadot, Chris Pine both reprise their roles and are joined by Pedro Pascal and Kristen Wiig. We now fast forward to the 80’s where Diana must face two new enemies: Max Lord and the Cheetah. If you’re a fan or have fond memories of the 80’s then this movie is absolutely for you, because it isn’t for anyone else.
Hosted, produced and mixed by Grayson Maxwell and Roger Stillion. Guest appearance by Christopher Boughan. Music by Chad Wall. Quality Assurance by Anthony Emmett.

THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS, Dir. Gabriele Muccino (2006) - Will Smith, Thandie Newton, Jaden Smith.
0:22:50 - Trailers - THE LITTLE THINGS and NOBODY
0:30:00 - MONSTER HUNTER, Dir. Paul W.S. Anderson
0:36:35 - THE PROFESSOR AND THE MADMAN, Dir. Farhad Saffinia (as P.B. Sherman)
0:45:40 - GREENLAND, Dir. Ric Roman Waugh
1:17:20 - MA RAINEY'S BLACK BOTTOM (Netflix)
MONSTER HUNTER
A video game adaption from Capcom. Milla Jovovich once again with her director husband in yet another movie that does not work. She is Artemis, a leader os a squad dispatched in the Middle East to locate Bravo team and a sand storm whips them away into another world where monsters are huge and plentiful making there weapons useless. She meets the Hunter (Tony Jaa) and, together learn to navigate a harsh and very unforgiving land. Oh! Ron Pearlman is a boat captain with the BEST 80's wig and mullet. So there's that. (3/10)
THE PROFESSOR AND THE MADMAN (On Netflix)
Mel Gibson and Sean Penn are absolutely the pull in this one, along with Eddie Marsan. Following the birth of the Oxford dictionary- finding the meaning and etymology of every word recorded through history up to current date. Gibson's James Murray is the self taught brilliant mind behind this push and Sean Penn's William Minor is a mentally unwell brilliant man who can help the academic community but needs to be treated and cured. There are at least 2 different movies placed together, possibly three. Well acted, but uninspired otherwise (5/10)
GREENLAND (VOD)
Gerard Butler and Morena Baccarin are the leads in this extinction level film with emotion. This is an emotional drama with a disaster baked around the center. As a nine mile wide comet comes towards Earth, John Garrity (Butler) and his family have been chosen to be sheltered in a classified U.S. military base in Greenland. The selection brings somewhat needed tension among others not selected and certainly helps the plot device problem these films always have. What's different in Greenland is it's not so much style over substance. The substance and heart is there, as well as dazzling special effects that, in 2020, look as real as ever. (7.5/10)
MA RAINEY'S BLACK BOTTOM (Netflix)
This is another one of the wonderful and much celebrated August Wilson's plays to shoot in Pittsburgh. Viola Davis and Chadwick Boseman are absolutely at their best in this, electrifying to say the least. Other members of the cast who also really shine are Coleman Domingo, Glynn Turman, Michael Potts and Jeremy Shamos. This very much an adapted stage plat for the screen. More than a few monologues and one location stays for 10-15 minutes at a time, which never seem as long because of how wonderfully this is directed. Ma Rainey "The Mother of Blues" and horn player Levee are at odds when it's discovered that Levee is using Ma's music to elevate his won status and strike out on his own. If you watch ONE movie this week, let it be Ma Rainey's Black Bottom (9/10)
Hosted, produced and mixed by Grayson Maxwell and Roger Stillion. Guest appearance by Christopher Boughan. Music by Chad Wall. Quality Assurance by Anthony Emmett.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS and HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Tuesday Dec 22, 2020
Tuesday Dec 22, 2020
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
Two VERY different kinds of holiday films. Both over the top but in much different ways.
Intro, the band is back together but very remote. Roger is Bah humbug about Christmas but Chris and Grayson love it! 2020 is a terrible year, but not as bad as the comet that his the planet millions of years ago. Christmas plans- Roger will binge drink. Chris just hoped to "survive" Christmas, whatever that means.

KLAUS, Dir. Sergio Pablos - Jason Schwartzman, J.K. Simmons, Rashida Jones, Norm Macdonald. Animated Christmas movie nominated for several awards.
AVA, Dir. Tate Taylor (2018) - Jessica Chastain, John Malkovich, Common, Geena Davis, Ioan Gruffud. Assassins and betrayal. A fight to prove innocence.
THE PROFESSOR AND THE MADMAN, Dir. Farhad Safinia - Mel Gibson, Sean Penn, Eddie Marsan, Steve Coogan, Ioan Gruffud, Natalie Dormer.
0:19:45 - Trailers - PALMER and NOMADLAND
0:17:10 - THE MANDALORIAN (S2 Ep8) Ch16 (Disney+)
0:31:10 - THE CHRISTMAS CHRONICLES: PART TWO, Dir. Chris Columbus
0:54:20 - FATMAN, Dir. Eshom Nelms and Ian Nelms
The Christmas Chronicles: Part 2 (Netflix)
Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn are part of the allure here- and as they should be along with Tyrese Gibson, Malcolm McDowell, and Kimberly Williams-Paisley. As a part two to Netflix's original Christmas Chronicles in which a brother and sister had to help save Christmas. Part two is no different. Once again, the sister and step brother must help Santa and Mrs. save Christmas as they get sucked into a portal by the evil elf turned human, Belsnickle. Tis one has a huge amount of camp and Christmas spirit, BUT that's about it. (3/10)
Fatman (VOD)
This is one of the season's best movies, hands down. Mel Gibson just SHINES as Chris K, a real life broken Santa Clause that the script immediately commits to and doesn't look back. Him, Mrs. Claus and his elven work force are contracted by the U.S. government to help with building military vehicles to supplement financially because, "All I have is loathing for a world thats forgotten." That statement fits perfectly with Mel as an actor. Walton Goggins is an assassin hired to kill Santa. You can think you know where this movie is going, but you really don't. But you will absolutely enjoy this. (6.5/10)
Hosted, produced and mixed by Grayson Maxwell and Roger Stillion. Guest appearance by Christopher Boughan. Music by Chad Wall. Quality Assurance by Anthony Emmett.

GOLDENEYE, Dir. Martim Campbell (1995) - Pierce Brosnan era bond. an almost non stop action movie moving from set piece to set piece. Sean Bean, Femke Jensen, Joe Don Baker, Judi Dench, Gottfried John and Alan Cumming. Great cast. Also, has nostalgia for most people from the n64 classic hit of the same name.
CRAWL, Dir. Alexandre Aja (2018) - Kayla Scodelario, Barry Pepper and Alligators. Heck of an action movie. If you missed it in theaters, see it for free now.
LORD OF THE RINGS Trilogy, Dir. Peter Jackson. Relive the epic classic. probably the best trilogy on the screen. Great cast that needs no introduction.
0:17:40 - Trailers - The Falcon and The Winter Soldier and Loki
0:29:55 - THE MANDALORIAN (S2 Ep7) Ch15 (Disney+)
0:37:45 - HAPPIEST SEASON Dir, Clea Duvall (Hulu)
1:58:30 - ALL MY LIFE, Dir. Marc Meyers
Happiest Season (Hulu)
Shot in Pittsburgh, PA. Kristen Stewart heads this cast of Mackenzie Davis, Mary Steenburgen, Victor Garber, Alison Brie, Mary Holland, Dan Levy, Aubry Plaza, and many more. Kristen Stewart steals the show in almost any scene she's in. Follows Abby (Stewart) and Harper (Davis) as they go to Harper's family home for a Christmas visit who plans on coming out to her parents about her life. More a romance drama than comedy, this one does have SOME emotion, certainly not as much as the movie wanted to have, unfortunately. The real laugh out loud moments all revolve around John (Levy) as he channels David from Schitt's Creek and does it well. (4/10)
All My Life
Jessica Rothe and Harry Shum Jr. lead the cast of a tragic yet fulfilled (true) love story of Solomon and Jennifer and how they live their last days as a couple before Harry's Cancer takes him from her. With that description above, you'd be right in assuming you know exactly what you're getting with a purchase of a ticket to see this- emotion and tears. Rothe and Shum Jr. are extremely likable and charming and do have chemistry on screen, though that isn't enough to save this from a below average fate (score). Take a few tissues with you as you may need them. (4.5/10)
Hosted, produced and mixed by Grayson Maxwell and Roger Stillion. Music by Chad Wall. Quality Assurance by Anthony Emmett.

The Croods: A New Age
The Croods continue their journey across a harsh and very unforgiving landscape with the new additions to their family- Sabercat, Guy and Douglass are now part of their pack. In this new adventure, The Croods meet up with a new family, The Bettermans and live in a temporary paradise that is shattered when the tribute inside the walls is eaten. What lurks beyond the wall? You'll have to watch it to find out. Make sure to take kids for a better experience. (5/10)
Hillbilly Elegy (Netflix)
Ron Howard brings his directorial charm to a Netflix original about a family from Kentucky and deep in the hills, tucked away from cities. These people kind of live their own way, which a code and respect for one another. Amy Adams, Glenn Close, Haley Bennet, and Freida Pinto all give good to great performances while Amy Adams and Glenn Close really give stellar performances you won't soon forget. A true story about J.D. Vance and his Family- a narrated story spanning several generations. Heartfelt and emotional at times, Hillbilly Elegy is one you should really check out. (7/10)

0:42:25 - The Boys season 2 (Amazon)
The Boys S2 (Amazon)
The Boys (and Girls) are back and they are still just as unlikeable as they were in season 1. Morally ambiguous and certainly more of Billy Butcher make this season absolutely awesome to watch. Karl Urban is the bet thing we have seen in a while and that praise is well earned. A new and very terribly awful villain makes an appearance this season with a very dark past and tries to bring it to 2020 and start a new world order with super are unstoppable. The lead up to the finally is as well done as any show with the season finally presenting one of the best triangles in years between characters. If you were a fan of season 1, you will LOVE this season and binge it to completion in a day or less. (8.5/10)
Operation Christmas Drop (Netflix)
Alexander Ludwig and Kat Graham lead up this cast in a very Hallmark like movie where everything works out for the best with no kind of loss or regret for anyone. Virginia Madsen joins the cast as a Congresswoman intent on shutting down the U.S. military base on Guam (which would never happen) and sends her top aid, Erica (Kat Graham) to evaluate the efficiency and productivity of the base and it's assets. While there, she is escorted around by naval pilot Andrew (Ludwig) and you can probably guess the rest. Very predictable and upbeat. Perfect for a family or a date night bt not much substance for anyone looking for a thought provoking movie. Netflix knows by now what they have and what the formula is. (3/10)
Hosted, produced and mixed by Grayson Maxwell and Roger Stillion. Guest appearance by Christopher Boughan. Music by Chad Wall. Quality Assurance by Anthony Emmett.

Tuesday Nov 24, 2020
Tuesday Nov 24, 2020
Episode 201. Thanksgiving week. Movies to talk about!
Vince Vaughn steals November as he wonderfully plays a 17 year old girl in a giant man's body. Watch out, Jack Black! And a movie with an ethical dilemma to be decided. A man can use technology to dig into his memory to find ones he lost in an accident, but should he?
Intro, Chris starts strong out of the gate with insults to Grayson. Chris's hand is almost better. 1918 pandemic similar to 2020. Roger MAY have won $12 Million in an email.
0:04:50 - Box-office, upcoming releases

0:22:00 - Trailers - Chaos Walking and Tom and Jerry
0:40:00 - Black Box, Dir Emmanuel Osei-Kuffour
0:57:45 - Freaky, Dir Christopher Landon
Freaky (Theatrical) - is the latest from Blumhouse and a twist on Freaky Friday. The Blissfield Butcher (Vaughn) is a hulking 6'5 of a man who also a murdering psychopath. Millie (Kathryn Newton) is a very self conscience 17 year old just trying to survive high school the recent loss of her father. With an Aztec death dagger and murder attempt the two switch bodies. Vince Vaughn shines here as he is HILARIOUS as a grown adult man with a 17 year old girl inside. He really is worth the price of Admission. This is a much better movie if you completely suspend all disbelief of how the real world works and is a great time. Get some popcorn and a soda to enjoy with this one IN an actual theater. (7/10)
Black Box (Amazon) - Nolan (Mamoudou Athie) is a man who's lost his wife and memory in a terrible car accident. He has trouble remembering even simple things with his daughter who is played wonderfully by Amanda Christine. He joins a very experimental treatment to help him regain his lost memories but begins to questions what is real and what is not and who he really is. Certainly a solid movie for Amazon. (6.5/10)

200 - Let Him Go and The Lie (Amazon)
Tuesday Nov 17, 2020
Tuesday Nov 17, 2020
It's Episode 200! As happy and excited are we, we will celebrate in a few weeks! Stay tuned.
Kevin Costner and Diane. Legends on the screen. An old grizzled Sheriff and his wife aim to get back their grandson from a crooked family holding him and their dead son's wife hostage. And a lie that tears two families apart, but where does the lie start and end? Not even Blumhouse knows.
Intro, try number 8 for the evening. Grayson watched Magic Mike, Roger likes. Chris's hand is almost fixed!
0:02:40 - Box-office, upcoming releases
0:08:50 - Trailers - Superintelligence and
0:15:55 - The Lie, Dir Veela Sud
0:36:45 - Let Him Go, Dir. Thomas Bezucha
The Lie - Peter Sarsgaard and Mirelle Enos along with Joey King are really a good trio. A 15 year old daughter is involved in pushing her friend off a bridge into freezing water. Her parents immediately start to try and cover it up. Plenty of twists and turns you WILL see coming with an ending with no payoff if you've anticipated it, which you should be able to do. (3.5/10)
Let Him Go - Kevin Costner and Diane Lane. Lots of movie here and little dialogue until the later third. Let's unpack. Kevin Costner and Diane Lane are George and Margaret Blackledge- an old and grizzled sheriff (retired) and a sweet and caring woman are mourning the loss of their son and start a fight to get their only grandson back from a family who has no intention of giving him or his mother up and back to the Blackledges. This is a slow burn and feels every bit of 2 hours. (6/10)
